This November, the Matatu Film Stage rolls into Nyege Nyege Festival bringing bold African cinema into the heart of the continent’s most electric celebration of music, art, and freedom.
From November 20–23, festivalgoers will experience a vibrant pop-up cinema where stories from Africa and Beyond will meet the rhythm and pulse of Nyege Nyege.
Alongside the screenings, Matatu Film Stage launches the first-ever Nyege Nyege 72-Hour Film Challenge; an open invitation to filmmakers and festival goers to create, shoot, and edit a short film within three days, right inside the festival.

What’s Happening
The Matatu Film Stage 72-Hour Film Challenge is happening inside the wild, creative energy of Nyege Nyege Festival.
Over three days, filmmakers, artists, and dreamers will write, shoot, and edit a short film right in the heart of the festival.
No theme. No limits. Just your story, your style, your rhythm.
Bring a camera, a phone, or whatever you have, the rest is pure imagination.
How It Works
Participants have exactly 72 hours to complete a short film (max 10 minutes including credits).
You can shoot anywhere permitted inside or around the festival grounds.
